Kara Briggs (Sauk-Suiattle) has spent decades telling stories—first as a journalist, now as a poet.
A resident of the Tulalip Reservation and a descendant of the Yakama Nation, she has worked with tribes from Arizona to Alaska, advocating for Indigenous communities and their connection to land and water.
With an MFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts and a background in public and tribal administration, her debut poetry collection, “Rivers in My Veins,” is a personal and historical exploration of her tribal family’s deep ties to the Cascade Mountains and Columbia
