SUMMARY:Poets Writing Across the Pacific
DESCRIPTION:Recorded WorkShop for AWP in Baltimore with Midori Fujioka\, Pat Matsueda\, Shawna Young Ryan\, Lawrence Ypil and Kara Briggs \nit will be available on line on March 4-7\, 2026 during the AWP Convention in Baltimore. \nMidori Fujioka and Kara Briggs are 2024 graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts with MFAs in Creative Writing. Kara is the author Rivers in My Veins\, and her poem Acknowledgement Two won the James Welch Prize in 2024. \nPat Matsueda is a poet and prose writer whose latest publication is Tailspin and Other Stories. From 1992 to 2022\, she was the managing editor of Manoa: A Pacific Journal of International Writing\, a literary publication of the University of Hawaii Press.  \n\n\n\nShawna Yang Ryan is the author of numerous short stories and two novels\, Water Ghosts and Green Island\, which received an American Book Award.She previously directed the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Creative Writing Program\, where she was a tenured professor. She now works as a book coach and editor in California.\n\n\nLawrence Ypil is a Filipino poet who writes about migration\, photography\, and memory. He just recently joined the English Department at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
